since i am very fascinated with this brain eating amoeba in particular, please emphasize infections are incredibly rare and its been known information that it can be found in tap water!! encounters are incredibly common but infections are rare because water needs to be FORCED in the nasal cavity (like jumping in a lake without protecting your nose), casual contact is so unlikely to cause infection but DO NOT play around if there has been a reported case in your area! make sure your water is filtered (and has proper filtering to tackle this specific issue), keep your head above water and maaayybbee plug your nose before jumping in

This isn’t really you should worry about because you have a higher chance getting hit by lightning and dying so I mean yeah stay cautious but it’s not like this is common it’s like a 1 in 30 mil chance to even contract it

Naegleria fowleri can live anywhere there is warm, fresh water. Always has. Nothing has changed with that. It has always grown in tap water and pools that aren’t taken care of. Don’t rinse your sinuses with tap water under any circumstance ever!!!

isn't the brain eating amoeba only really found in warm and mostly still water? I heard it can't survive in cold water, or salt water, and even if you accidentally get some water up your nose it has to get really far up to even have a chance for those things to get in brain
