They aren't dense, they're medicating him to make sure he doesn't have any behaviors. No one is equipped in the ER to deal with an autistic adult.

You’re not wrong. I wonder if they have an agitation protocol of meds they’re using. It sounds like a psychiatrist should be involved (or another one). Are they seeking an RTF placement at this point?

I 💯 feel your pain as this is your child and not a medication you think he should have but if he’s getting aggressive it may be the only way they are equipped to handle him in the setting he’s in. There has to be a better option made available for individuals in this situation. No one should have to stay in an ER for weeks on end awaiting placement for mental health services. Here in NH we have laws preventing this.

It is only my opinion of course, but I bet they will “dose” him for most of the day & so will a group home. I hear it all the time. They r not “better” at dealing with him than u. You are the parent & u actually care about him.

I have a family member that is an ER nurse. A few months ago she was telling me that the protocol now is that all psych patients are kept in the ER until there’s somewhere to place them. She explained that even with all of her training, she is not trained to care for These patients. Some can remain in the ER for several weeks to find a place to send them to. I 100% agree with you and would be absolutely livid like you are. But unfortunately, it really is a bad place for anyone to go. That is having any psychological issues. 😢

Can you explain how they can do this without your consent in advance as his guardian and MPOA? Do they take over control when he's admitted? I'm not familiar with the medical side of things & appreciate you always educating all of us. I'm praying for Gabe and for your sanity.

Please bring in the meds in the bottles. They can verify faster. The provider ordered meds prob as scheduled. Also they are looking for a facikity to take him.

Absolutely NOT wrong!! They dont listen too often. My daughter is on the spectrum, not profound Autism, but still on the spectrum. She has mental health issues as well and has been in and out of psych wards for years. They never really listened to me OR her Med Doctor she has seen the last 3 years.

they did this to my daughter, she was having severe behaviors because of this. telling me that's why she needs it. took her off when got home, behaviours went back to normal.
