why don't they turn the James Webb telescope towards this object and it will settle the matter fairly quick. If James Webb can clearly photograph galaxies that formed three hundred million years after the big bang, surely it can confirm an object in our own solar system ?

First off, it is not on a collision course with Earth. Unless something large disturbs its trajectory, it will miss Earth by at least 150 million miles - not even close to be considered a near miss. Secondly, if it WAS on a collision course with Earth, there are no defensive measures that we possess to stop, or alter a 7 mile long rock traveling at approximately 140,000 mph. 🙄🙄
