as a therapist, I am APPALLED that a therapist would do/say something like this. if a client isn't a good fit, we should be having a conversation about this. if a client isn't doing the work, then we should be having a conversation about this. I get SO angry hearing stories like this bc every person who has an experience like this makes them scared of therapy and aren't willing to trust another therapist that could actually be of help. I'm always so appreciative when clients tell me they've had terrible experiences before but we're willing to try again.

this is a massive red flag... she sounds like she should never practice therapy. this is passive aggressive. honesty is paramount. she should try and see what's preventing you from doing the work or outright say... how about we end things here and when you feel ready to move forward with what we discussed or so the work..I can't help you. this puts the power in their hands to be like ok yeah I wont come back and if client feels mad... it was there choice. this is never ok. weird behaviour.

My therapist ended my therapy supposedly through no fault of my own but definitely because of me. I’m never gonna trust that therapy is a safe place again. Never.

I was told big girls dont cry because I refused to cry. every week I would expect to be in trouble again. I felt I wasnt meant to be there so I left.

This response initially confused me. Because as someone who has survived intense trauma triggered by closed doors and one on one interactions behind them, my therapist and I are just working on sitting in the room together right now because of how much fear I have of her (and every other human). So it does constantly feel like walking into war, but so does everywhere else in my life. I’m curious about your thoughts on this type of fear of your therapist, because the question was initially the same but then went in a different direction. (I’m not looking for a solution to my own situation)

If a therapist I saw 4 times said I’m challenged because of your life experiences, is that saying she doesn’t know if she can help me? I will ask in next session but I’m sitting with it after a rupture, non- boundaried no closure therapy of 4 years. It’s hard.

Been w/therapist 10 yrs. Had traumatic injury and she suggested EMDR therapy. Making so much progress can see it’s time to move on.
