i havent read Dont Let the Forest In, bur based on your description, youll probably like Overgrowth by Mira Grant. MCs bf is trans in that one, theres plant-like aliens, and it includes botanical body horror. Major themes on immigration, colonialism, identity, and family (both by blood and found)
