@animalsrescuecenter1: ❤️We have an update to share on Emilie. Yesterday, Emilie was gasping for air on a cold shelter floor, moments away from being euthanized. We had no space, no open fosters, but we knew we were her only hope. We rushed her to the hospital with minutes to spare. Emilie arrived to Dr. Walker’s critical care unit in respiratory distress. She was immediately placed in an oxygen chamber, where she remained for over 24 hours as doctors worked to stabilize her fragile body. Only after her breathing steadied could diagnostics begin. The X-rays confirmed what we feared: severe pneumonia. Her lungs are badly compromised, but her white blood cell count is elevated, a good sign, indicating that her body is still fighting. Low white cells would’ve pointed to sepsis, which is far more dire. Today, Emilie was weaned off the oxygen chamber and is now breathing on room air. It’s a small victory but we’re not out of the woods yet. Pneumonia is unpredictable. One day they’re strong, and the next, they’re crashing. Emilie is able to stand and take a few steps before becoming winded again. Her condition remains serious. Her recovery will take time, close monitoring, and continued support. Pneumonia is always unpredictable. From our experience, we can only take this one day at a time. We want to thank our incredible community for helping us pull her out of that shelter when she needed it most. Emilie is alive today because of your compassion. Please keep her in your thoughts, and if you’re able, continue to support her fight.
