The term “Judeo-Christian ethics” makes sense when referring to the shared moral foundation between Judaism and Christianity—like belief in objective moral law and human dignity. But it becomes misleading when used to imply both are theologically or morally equal. Christianity fulfills and perfects the moral law revealed in Judaism, especially in the Catholic Church.
For example, Orthodox Christianity permits divorce, reflecting a more Jewish approach, while Catholicism upholds the indissolubility of marriage as taught by Christ. Even within Christianity, moral views differ—Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant—so if we’re going to reject the term “Judeo-Christian” completely, we should go further and speak precisely: Catholic ethics, Orthodox ethics, Calvinist ethics, and so on.

Jesus says that in the “beginning” divorce was not allowed so easily but Moses permitted it because of the hardness of the people’s hearts. Suggesting that God understood that people couldn’t be pushed beyond what they could tolerate. Jesus does say divorce is permitted in the case of “fornication”, which is usually understood to be adultery. Other forms of betrayal could apply.

Except he didn’t. According to Matthew 19:9, he gave a specific stipulation. The Orthodox Church itself actually does allow for the dissolution of a sacramental marriage, recognizing the brokenness of the human condition. While divorce is not ideal, it is allowed in cases such as, adultery, abuse, abandonment, or even if the spouse causes harm or dysfunction to the point that the marriage can not be sustained. The Orthodox Church even allows for a second, even a third marriage and while it isn’t considered to be a full sacramental union, it is still considered a concession.

He is cherry picking more than a cherry farmer. OT says if you find uncleaness in your wife to put a certificate of divorce in her hand. Like adultery, worshipping false gods, witchcraft, etc. Moses divorced his wife because it had become genuinely unsafe for them. The House of Hillel during the second temple period (Jesus's time) taught that a man could divorce his wife for whatever he deemed unclean rather than what scripture says. This is what Jesus was addressing in the beatitudes.

Judeo-Christian refers simply to the fact that without the Old Testament, there would not be New Testament.

Jesus was jewish. He was teaching his view on judeo ethics. It wasn’t until at least 40-70 years later others started formulating christianity

As someone that has been divorced and has remarried, what does that mean for me? Is my salvation no good? Will I not know my current wife in heaven? Etc. I ask genuinely as a man who tries to follow Christ, I was not always following Jesus.
