@emmanatienza: the body shaming culture back then was also insane which (i feel like) is why people feel so much resentment towards that era. but objectively speaking, i think the body standards themselves (putting shaming aside) were slightly easier.
merci, j'en ai marre qu'à chaque fois qu'une fille fine se plaint de son corps ça dit que c'est une pick me et qu'elle devrait être contente d'être le standard de beauté alors que bah pas complètement

Back then it was « be skinny everywhere ». Now it’s « be skinny at certain spots » and « be fat in other spots » as if the human body worked like that😂

Same with muscular people. Just look at old body builders compared to now. The old ones actually looked somewhat healthy. The new ones look unnatural.

I get rlly confused when people are like “every VS model was only 110 pounds!” Yes tiny but isn’t that doable(depending on height obvi)? Compared to literally having to change your fat distribution? Which is physically impossible without surgery

I’ll be honest I think this might also be a racial thing. The body standards now are white women trying to look like women of color and that’s why it’s not attainable. Before white women were just trying to look white.

And now we use “mid” as an insult. Not even ugly, like mid is supposed to be middle of the ground, not good or bad, but it’s like the worse thing to be called after chopped

To be skinny like the 2000s is not attainable for most unless they are in a major calorie deficit, a lot of bodies are not naturally built that way. Going to the gym w a healthy cal deficit is attainable and does not look like 2000s skinny at all

i highly disagree. it really depends on genetics for some people that body type can be really unattainable but in alot of countries thats just what women look like. like where do you think the inspiration for bbls and hourglass figures come from. just look at south africa or like any west african country they have natural bbls 😭

It's fundamentally about class differences. Individuals from higher socioeconomic backgrounds often have the financial resources or the leisure time to pursue intensive fitness regimens or cosmetic enhancements. For the average person, achieving the same aesthetic results—like building a sculpted physique—requires far more effort, time, and sacrifice. Beauty standards are constantly shifting toward ideals that are increasingly difficult to attain, serving as a form of social distinction. In many ways, these standards operate as mechanisms through which the upper classes differentiate themselves from the lower classes—and I firmly believe that.
