Yes he was antisemitic and I believe his family issued a formal apology because they were embarrassed by it. That dialogue with the “German Jews” from 1943 that he wrote about in ‘83 sounds like bullshit he made up to justify his bigotry.

I grew up in England, and he came to our elementary school one time. I have a signed copy of “The Twits.” He was a big deal at our air base, so we also got to go to the Apollo Theatre in London to watch “The BFG” when it got turned into a play.

Didn’t the original Willy Wonka books have Black slaves with dwarfism instead of The Oompa Loompa’s? I’ve never read the books myself but I heard people talking about it a few years ago (I heard Matilda’s also written by him, and I love the musical so I hope the book is just as good!)
