@idontknowwheretopoop: ethel cain addressing her racist past and her statement, to hear her full thoughts to go @Popcast (Deluxe) on youtube #ethelcain
one of leftism’s major issues is not allowing space for people to grow and change- even outside of ethel and this whole situation- bigger picture, people NEED to understand that if we hold others back from personal growth, it only widens the political divide issue that’s destroying the US right now. i’m not saying that any poc who is rightfully upset at what she’s said in the past needs to jump to her defense or embrace her apology- but expecting her to deplatform herself instead of allowing her to continue to use her platform to speak out against the awful stuff occurring in the world rn, that’s regressive. you can’t call yourself a progressive and not give space for people to engage in personal progress.

in rural america this kind of thing is unfortunately common. as someone who lives in a small town in virginia, where most people are white, christian, and typically closed minded, i’ve met so many people who think it’s okay to be like that. deep down they know it isnt ok, because they’ve seen the repercussions of behaving the way they do. but because they live in a mostly white population, they don’t care, because they feel immune to consequences. when i was in public school, i saw so much of this. i never participated in it, but i never said anything because i remembered what happened the one time i did say something about it. they look at you like you’re crazy for trying to tell them that what they’re doing is wrong. and in a town where most people are conservatives or trump supporters, it’s dangerous to even stand up for what’s right. people will gang up on you because you’re the odd one out, and they feel like they are justified. that doesnt make it right but i see where she’s coming from. most of the time people just go with it because theres no way of convincing people otherwise

Do people realize that if they don’t like or appreciate her, they can simply block her? She is not targeting or hating anyone so let’s not target or hate on her!

Based off of some of these comments I feel like no one is even attempting to seek to understand and hear what she is saying. isn’t that where communication and growth happens?

so she said what she said, that happened. she apologized a couple times now. what is she genuinely meant to do? "we arent buying it" thats genuinely your problem atp. you all want people to take accountability, and she did. her attitudes and views have VISIBLY changed over the years. if you want to write her off, write her off. but there is literally nothing else she can do

Y'all do not have to do the "I'm black and I forgive her" thing. You can forgive her but understand that you do not speak for the entire community. It's totally fine to forgive her leave it at that.

anyone who isn’t black shouldn’t be accepting her apology guys… cmon now. is it possible to learn and grow? yes. but black people aren’t and shouldn’t be expected to forgive her if they don’t want to. some of y’all are moving like problematic kpop stans.

nobody is able to tell me that this woman is any sort of “undercover bigot” the way that she carries herself as an advocate now shows her character NOW im really tired of narratives that deny change it’s so toxic and her clear remorse to people harmed shows growth and as hurtful it may be to other black fans to get startled like that i truly do not think she is against us in any way and assuming that further hurts yourself/wellbeing we deserve to enjoy music just as much as any other people 🤍

People are expecting her to just disappear. That doesn’t fix anything it just sweeps it under the rug. She grew up in the south during the Trump era of America. America in general. Like we can’t say we are raised in a racist country and be shocked when someone says/said or does/did something racist. Ethel clearly has grown and learned and has moved on to being a better person.
