I just read Stephen King‘s book 11.22.63, in which he writes about a man who stumbles upon a time travel portal, and uses it to try to go back and stop the Kennedy assassination. I wonder if King was inspired by this episode of twilight zone

Lincoln's death in 1865 could not have been broadcast on the radio. The first radio station, KDKA, didn't sign on air until 1920

Regarding this episode of the Twilight Zone and other stories that deal with time travel, the gist of the stories is that you can not change the past. Any attempt by the time traveler to do so will change some events, like the butler becoming rich, but that person’s actions won’t stop the main event from happening. In an updated Twilight Zone series from the 80s, a time traveling cousin of JFK tries to prevent the assassination from taking place, but it still takes place but with an interesting outcome for the cousin. In the Star Trek episode called The City on the Edge of Forever, Captain Kirk wants to prevent a person from dying, but in order to prevent the future from changing, he must allow history to take its course and allow that person to die. There are some minor changes in the history but the main event still takes place. There are many other science fiction stories that deal with this theme.

I think the story would’ve been better if it was a bootstrap paradox where he was talking to John Wilkes Booth, unknowingly, about the assassination attempt on Lincoln. Giving JWB the idea.
