Almost all of western medicine is focused on getting rid of pain instead of developing the capacity to understand pain. 1 in 4 people in the United States is not disordered or broken. They're likely having an appropriate reaction to a profoundly sick society. A lot of car alarms going off in our society. It's getting loud. In many eastern countries symptoms of depression are seen as a spiritual awakening leading to massive changes in the way a person moves in life. You're not wrong for wanting to escape pain and there is zero shame in taking medication. If someone is experiencing so much pain that they cannot function in life I believe it's cruel to not give them something to help. I'm not saying medication is bad. I have been on it myself multiple times throughout life after experiencing immensely painful things. I am saying, I think that it can be overused too often to mask symptoms. I believe many symptoms are a normal response to a poor environment. Rather than teaching people how to move to create change in our society, we often numb them with medication, TikTok, Netflix, junk food etc. Many of us feel helpless and powerless to create change in our society. But hopelessness is a lie. I am plannig to start some in person community and advocacy groups. If you would like to be a part send me a DM or respond in the comments.
