If you dont know, chanting and screaming in Hawaii is common before any tsunami, it's a call to their ancestors to protect their land. Hawaii is a very spiritual land, kind of like it's respectful to mother nature to give a gift before entering a cave

To the people finding the screaming, chanting, and light flashing weird it is not. To me, it is almost like a war cry or telling the universe that you are gonna survive this and you will fight. It puts you in a survival mode. It is also kinda soothing to know that you have other neighbors within the vicinity to weather the storm with.

*sigh* Oli (“chanting & screaming”), is very common in Hawaii. There’s so much history behind it. They are calling their ancestors for protection and honor their land.

I'm not sure about Hawaii but Tongan mythology a storm is brought in by a goddess traveling through and we're usually outside making noises to scare her away from the land. My first time doing this I was 5yrs old and in the middle of the night, everyone went outside and chant, yell and beating on drums or anything that would make noise to scare her away. This was back in 1975, this core memory just popped up.
