As a former accountant for a restaurant this is easy to explain. Why it looks like that is your tips are not reflected in that earnings line it is only your hourly wage total. But that tax amount also includes taxes on your tips so it looks like an insane tax rate but it is not. We had a lot of servers and bartenders get $0 paychecks since that amount they made in tips are up all their hourly pay.

I’m not American but I have a real question. If you don’t get free healthcare where do your taxes goes aside of education and infrastructure??? I’m in Colombia and my salary does not have taxes, and you have to make quite a good salary here to be charged for taxes. It’s so weird.
