@oyasumisushi: I think a lot of US Americans forget this because it’s such a common occurrence, but it is not normal anywhere else. #usa #europe #asia #culture #america #japan #japanese #storytime #truecrime
I moved to a developing country in the Caribbean. It turns out that it’s just about as developed if not more than it is back home in small town America where I grew up lol. It kinda changes your perspective a bit

living in LA i heard a shooting outside one of my apartments. at another apartment armed gunman were caught on my neighbor’s ring camera scouting place, and another time in that same apartment a homeless man tried to break in through my bedroom window at 4am and i had to call the cops. i didn’t realize the low grade stress i had been living under until i house sat for my friend with a security system and could finally unclench. ironically the cops stopped by a day later warning that a serial rapist was on the loose in the neighborhood 💀

i lived in japan for a good few years and i got so comfortable with simply existing in public, i was TERRIFIED when i came back home. i ended up being a hermit for the first year back here because i was so scared. it’s not normal at all and i hate that so many think it is 💔

I live in Indy inside the loop. The sounds of gun shots don’t phase me anymore. The police chases around here are regular. I would love to live somewhere more peaceful. But we can’t afford to move. I want to move to an area where the citizen notifcations are only ever reporting fires.

Not justifying people owning guns, but you're more likely to die in this country from a small fall and it's by shocking numbers

In 2022 I went out for an evening walk in Nihonbashi and a kid on a bike rolled up and grabbed is phone from his jacket and I flinched. That was a real culture shock for me.

i was in the usa for the 4th of july a few years ago and there were soldiers with machine guns standing on most of the street corners. that's not normal, you shouldn't need the armys protection to have a public celebration!

i permanently moved back to italy on july 1st after 27 years in the US and i just realized the other day that the past month has been the longest stretch of time i've spent in the last 10-15 years not worried about being sh0t. i literally haven't spent a whole month in the past 10-15 years completely without the fear of g*n violence
