Tbh ascending him and continuing the cycle is fun and I love Astarion as a character, not a redeemed lover or evil lover so I don’t really care. However it’s interesting to me a lot of ascension fans would admit he’s evil and bad but would never take it he doesn’t truly love Tav, like, normally after ascension. Not to say an evil character can’t have true love but still I think it’s also kinda weak to stick to the true love thing. I love some dark romance and I honestly think it makes him more attractive if he doesn’t truly love my Tav. I would think it’s just his dark desire and twisted obsession. There will be much more to explore and it makes him a more interesting character than some evil true lover. My headcanon is acended Astarion being like Don Giovanni who is so vividly evil, never confesses, never submits, and who is dragged to hell for eternal torture at the end. 😂

I find it so interesting that the player has sway over whether the cycle continues or not. Even if you ascend him and play a neutral role, he is better than Cazador and doesn’t continue the cycle(entirely). But if you ascend him on a dark route, it will. And if you don’t ascend him then it obviously wont.
