Pad compound, quality rotors, and good new brake fluid can handle track work. Even a K-swapped Fit can handle track days with rear drums

could you run one set of pads at the track and another on the street?

Run Pagid RSL29s on my BMW and Hawk DTC-60s on my Miata. I HATE the DTC-60s. They’re like an on-off switch. Terrible modulation.

Hot take, the squeal from high op temp pads during street use is cool 😎

Your brake fluid is the most important component. The thermal transfer coefficient through the pad doesn't change much based on composition. Now you add a more aggressive pad so the rate at which you put heat into the fluid increases.
You are setting people up for brake failure and you don't even know it.

Also keep in mind that the curve changes based on your rotor material when looking up your curve look into what material was tested as it will dramatically affect your breaking performance and feel

big breaks dont even slow you down quicker, they just get less hot due to the extra surface area. thus reducing brake fade. which better pads would also negate. I think doing both is cool when its needed, but most people could just go with slightly larger disks and decent pads.

It’s a system - trying to say one component is more important than the other is folly.
