@whitneymuseum: Welcome to @chrisunkim's "trauma room." Kim describes her relationship with trauma and how it helped inform her drawing Trauma, LOL (2020). Her survey exhibition Christine Sun Kim: All Day All Night is on view now through September 21.
ASL is such a breathtakingly beautiful visual language, it’s like a conductor leading a symphony of language. As a CODA I’m so happy to see this gorgeous representation in art💛

This woman has an INCREDIBLE Ted talk about the music and beauty of ASL, I rewatch any time learning it is hard. A very big inspiration for me!

I visited in June and I loved the exhibit. It’s just so human and honest. You can feel the pieces asking you to look and listen. To try and understand. It’s heartbreaking the hardships the deaf community faces. I hope that work like this continues to touch people and inspire change for the better!

I know only *very* basic ASL, so I never learned the sign for trauma. But I kind of love it? The sign itself, and the variations of it for severity-I feel like it communicates the feeling of trauma so much better, and far more viscerally, than just the word “trauma” can.

i'm curious about how "I'm mistaken" translates to "I lied", does intent matter in asl?

I didn't know about English vs Deaf English. I love that the sign for not going to repeat myself is "train is gone" 😅

The amount of times I say something truly traumatic that has happened to me, or is currently still affecting me, then say “lol” or “bahahahaha” is… yeah, I get this art. I get it deeply.
