I have the SAME hair type, and I just give up sometimes. Let it dry naturally and then rope braids (+ you can sleep in them). As a result it looks wavy but without all the products, effort and tears. Some days its just like this :)

I use a banana clip at the top of my head, then a silk scarf and bonnet. I wash my hair Sundays, which lasts till Wednesday, Wednesday I do a full refresh. Between Thursday and Saturday I just mist my hair when needed
