when i was seeing my best results i was just eating a TON of meat and greek yogurt while staying in a slight deficit and it honestly worked. Literally just spam greek yogurt and turkey bacon . Its boring but it works

it’s totally possible to have both but it takes time and depends on your goals. both ab and glute mass require an adaquate amount of protein, so starting in a surplus would be helpful for muscle growth. but muscle definition requires lower body fat %, so a deficit following the surplus could be helpful for that too. play around with what feels right

you don't need either. you can do body recomp where you maitain while eating proper nutrition and build muscle while losing fat. it's actually best for most ppl
