I think the EU realize their economy is shrinking with China eating it up and there's nothing they can do about it. So they'll rather consolidate with the US economy than loose it to China. Remember the EU failed terribly to make a trade deal with China a few days ago so the best move is to pivot to the US even if it's not in their interest, at least they'll get defense support from US. Meanwhile Taiwan is getting cozy with China, there goes the EU's chips-machinery leverage.
