He forgave his oppressors, but couldn't forgive mama Winnie. A sellout indeed.

Mandela was not Jesus Christ. This expectation that it was his responsibility to fix everything is wild. We are a generation that is obsessed with invalidating everyone…. viva Madiba

Winnie Madikizela Mandela is the real hero of our freedom, she kept his name in the news, she suffered so bad for our freedom. Nelson, oh well 🙄

While it benefited him, what Mandela did was diplomatic. Revenge was never going to benefit South Africa. Look at where Zimbabwe ended because of revenge. Let’s pit our emotions aside and be logical about this. Revenge may feel good but it wasnnever going to benefit South Africa in the long run.

At the end of the day he was just a man. He did his best. 27 years in prison is no child's play. He fought for liberation the best he knew how. It's easy to talk and criticize when you watching from a distance

I, for one, will not disrespect the legacy and sacrifice of Mandela. He did what he thought was best at the time. I may disagree with some of his choices but I am grateful for his role. Mandela and co left a country intact, not plagued by a civil war. They avoided blood shed that shaped many African countries post colonialism. He left fertile ground for others to take the baton and reform but they chose not to. Its not Mandela's fault that we are still suffering...it is the work of the ruling party that chooses corruption over service.

As a South African, a lot of us know that Mandela was a "Yes man" He made many sellout moves which still burn us today. He threw out the real patriot (Mama Winnie)who was ready to TRULY transform our country! We can't forgive him..he wasn't angry enough at the injustices.

As someone doesn’t know this history well I have a genuine question: you mentioned that when he was released from prison the country was on the brink of Civil War. Perhaps he compromised to such an extent because he didn’t want to see more people dying and war tearing apart his country. Perhaps SA was weary of war, people were already suffering and he wanted to bring peace where reforms can happen gradually. Just a thought…. It’s more complex than black and white , right and wrong thinking
