If this is asked in good faith then the reason why people are saying it promotes eugenics is because in one ad she says “my genes are blue” someone having blue genes refers to their eye color with the term “blue genes” being popularized by n@zis to refer to the white blonde haired and blue eyed people they think were “superior”. Her saying the factual statement she has blue genes isn’t bad until directly after the guy voice says “Sydney Sweeney has great genes/jeans!”, which it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to reason they are saying that blue genes (white blonde haired and blue eyed) are great. With saying cosmetic genes are great that means there are not great/bad cosmetic genes which is the same thing eugenists and more specifically n@zis believe

It wasn’t just the “good genes” line the ad was supposed to support domestic violence advocacy, but it leaned hard into sexualization and male gaze. That mismatch is the issue. You can’t push a cause like that while using messaging that plays into the same systems that often enable harm. It just didn’t align. I mean I do think some of the commentary is fair! 🫶

based off ae and dd ads the good genes are white blonde and blue eyed. which makes everyone else inferiors. has a slight racist/notsee undertone. thats why some are mad. these ads could have been worded differently. and the fact that ads need appproval of multiple leves of people to be aired gives poor morals to those running these companies.

I would say it would be a mediocre play on words if it wasn’t specifically referring to blue as the “great genes.” But it’s not a good play on words because nobody actually passes jeans down from generation to generation, so that whole angle doesn’t work. The only thing that is passed down in this case are genes. So they were definitely trying to focus on the genetic aspect, more specifically the blue eyes and blonde hair being the “great genes.” If it was just a focus on attractiveness or something like that it would be different. But it was a pretty obvious focus on caucasian attributes.

Because she’s openly and publicly MAGA doing a jeans add turned to „genes“ to show off her blonde hair, blue eyes and she’s white. „Sydney Sweeney has great genes“ is excessive. Should have just kept it as a jeans add and not a features ad. It’s very queasy once you realize the deeper meaning. You don’t have to be angry at it, but you shouldn’t be upset with the people who are angry at it.
