OG fan here, love games from classic and modern FF. but 16 is the only one feels off. didnt evolve on that one. they removed a lot of mechanics, so maybe it devolved. though I understand they experimented on that game.

as someone who started playing FF with 8, most of my favorite games in the series came out after FFX, and FFXVI has placed itself as the bronze standard of the main series imo. honestly they see that Turn based combat isn't "dead" and what they really want is for FF to become a turn based "CALLADOODY" instead of playing those other series themselves and do they not understand that the devs at square don't want to grow bored with making the same game over and over! That's why FF is a standout series. the devs are always willing to innovate.

I got into FF back during covid and have played all the games since and gotta say I really enjoy “modern” FF more than “classic” even tho i enjoy the classic style of game more

FF16 is a good game, but the OG fans have a problem with Square Enix making it an action game due to vocal social media haters of turn based rpgs(google it if you do not believe me) and the lack of party members/rpg elements. Rebirth had a great rpg system though

my dad has been a fan of FF since the first one came out on the NES. He still loves the modern FF games! he definitely has those he doesn't like (mainly the mmos) but saying old FF fans don't like modern FF is something I hate hearing

It kinda feels like you don't enjoy that there can be valid criticism in newer games? Video games are a subjective medium just like music, we don't all have to like the same things. God knows I had to listen to those same people for decades call FF7 overrated based on what always came down to preferences. 🙄
