In a simple explanation A 30% tariff on South African goods makes them less competitive in the US market because it increases their price. For example, if US buyers used to pay $2 for Zzz tomatoes, they'd now pay $2.60 (a 30% increase). Converting this to South African Rands, the price would go from R36 to R46.80. This higher price might deter American buyers from purchasing SA goods.
