Is Mount Fuji in Japan overrated? 🤔 Certainly NOT! It’s one if the most iconic mountains in the world for a reason. The majestic scenery of the mountain and its nearby lakes and the landscape are some of the most picturesque places in the world. However, hiking this mountain, is a different story. When I visited Japan I realized I would stop at Mount Fuji during the hiking season, which only lasts for 2 months. Since I love hiking I had high expectations about this magnificent mountain but I wasn’t aware of how overcrowded the volcano would be. For the remaining 2 hours of the hike, I spent more time waiting in line than actually hiking. I was freezing and this situation didn’t help warming up. Mountain huts are overpriced and also sell out quite quickly so most people do bullet-hiking, going up the mountain overnight with no sleep. Also that this was on a random Wednesday night so I don’t want to imagine what a hike would look like on the weekend… The hike down was also quite exhausting, slippery and there were no water refilling stops. In conclusion I would say that Mount Fuji is definitely a must visit place, especially in the colder months when the visibility is much better and the stunning volcano can be admired from afar, but hiking it just isn’t anything I would put very high on your bucket list when visiting Japan.
