PB&J are a quintessential "american" food for us not in the USA (or maybe north America, idk what Canada feels about em) to us, this is a very unique and odd combination, that has become iconic through your media, but hasn't really translated into being eaten like ever.

It’s also something that drives me nuts because I do accept that it may be a flavor I’m used to and it would be overwhelming for people who haven’t tried it before BUT they also always do something completely out of left field, like using Jello or getting the proportions absolutely insane. Like it’s one of the simplest things to make but I guess get an American to do it for you just to give you the best shot at liking it?

These comments are weird. We absolutely have peanut butter in the UK, it's sold in all supermarkets, even the corner shop stocks it. We do have American style jelly, we just call it seedless jam and it's about as common as the full fruit jam. and we 100% do eat PB&J, especially as kids. My kid loves it on toast and I ate it as a kid 30 years ago so it's not a new thing.

As a Brit i can confirm its not a thing here, unless you find a random shelf in the shop, with foods from other countries....yeh stuff like that is is the shady stores that might make you sick or get mugged as you leave😅

what ive learned from having British friends is that they dont seem to have the same food variety as we do, at least not as popular i was jumped on a few days ago trying to explain what biscuits and gravy was "why is there cream in your gravy!?!?" "we only have one gravy and it's the best gravy" 🥲 they couldn't seem to grasp we have variety here

Jam, jelly and preserves are the same here but jelly and preserves are far less common. Jelly is usually the kind that goes with meat though, not sweet sandwich kind. Grape is a far less common flavour in general

im in the UK and my mom used to make PB&J’s for me all throughout elementary school for my lunches. Our Jam is just your jelly lmao and it definitely isn’t as unpopular of a sandwich up north as it is south bc i can remember multiple people would have the same thing as me
