I’ve been meaning to create more intricate pieces for a while now. I’ve just always been worried that it was too much out of my usual style and wouldn’t be a smart going to di business wise. Something like this piece isn’t something i can recreate over and over again. Maybe i can make a couple of variants but just sculpting this one piece took a full 8h of work. The amount of care and love that went into it is also not something id ever be able to sustainably output without loosing my sanity. And then there is always the possibility that nobody would want it due to how much more id have to charge for a more intricate piece. So for a long time i stayed away from more complex ideas I’ve had brewing in my mind. But at a certain point i realised that if im not making the things i truly feel called to make due to the pressure of a market, then I’m forgetting the whole point. Among many interests I’ve always had, dinosaurs have always been a big one. At a certain point in my life I genuinely wanted to be a palaeontologist, however my skills have always been more in the art department. I don’t have the background and education to dig up fossils, or tell you cool facts or truly know if what I’m depicting is semi accurate at all. But thats not the point either. What i make comes from a place of love and curiosity. I did spend a good amount of time looking at research papers and photos of fossils and other artist’s depictions, but at the end of the day i just wanted to make something cool that makes me exited about learning more about life on earth and is also funcional. Something someone who has the same love i have, can stare at in their daily lie and hopefully make it a little more bright, and maybe even start a conversation. I hope you enjoy this little anky as much as i do. May he hold your salt or spices or sugar well. #ceramics #pottery #handmadeceramics ##cuteceramics #cutepottery #dino #dinoceramics #paleoart #paleoartist #ankylosaur #ankylosaurus #saltdish #paleantology
