The Cambodian military has officially informed military attachés and diplomats from 13 countries that the Thai army has captured 20 Cambodian soldiers (with 1 escaping and 2 feared dead) following a declared ceasefire. The incident occurred during a peaceful gesture, when Cambodian soldiers approached Thai troops at Chom Taae battlefield to shake hands — a symbol of peace and reconciliation. Thai soldiers, however, suddenly pointed weapons and arrested them without warning. As of now, they remain detained.
📍 Preah Vihear, July 30, 2025 – Cambodian military leadership delivered a formal briefing to foreign military representatives and diplomatic missions from 13 countries regarding a serious violation of ceasefire commitments by Thailand. The Cambodian side explained that, after the ceasefire took effect on the morning of July 29, their soldiers walked toward Thai troops at Chom Taae to engage in a peaceful handshake. Upon returning, they were ambushed, held at gunpoint, and captured by Thai forces.
This statement was made during a field visit led by senior officials from Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, in coordination with international observers and diplomatic missions, who inspected the Thai-Cambodian border to monitor compliance with the ceasefire agreement.
Cambodia condemns this grave breach of trust and calls on the international community to intervene and demand the immediate release of the detained soldiers. These actions not only violate international norms but also jeopardize peace and stability in the region.
🕊️Cambodia remains committed to peaceful solutions and respects international law — but it cannot accept aggression disguised as diplomacy.🇰🇭🙏🏻
