As someone who lived in Italy for 20 years, I actively discourage anyone from visiting the major tourist hotspots like Rome, Venice or Milan, they're extremely overcrowded and the heat is unbearable. They're much more enjoyable off-season Better book a trip through the Tuscan countriside or other, less congested areas, they're just as charming and much more authentic.
