Original Story: On the postpartum unit, visitors began fighting in the hallway, screaming, punches thrown. Police called, calming everything down. Turns out they were disgruntled because they “bought” a baby for $20,000 dollars and the mother had changed her mind. They wanted the police to intervene and get the mom to give them the baby they illegally purchased. Everyone went to jail - not the baby. -Austin, TX

This happens more than you know, but in a different context. She could be a surrogate mother and doesn’t want to give the baby up in which case they have a case. Could be an adoption that I put money in and taking care of the mother and she backs out. In which case they won’t force her to give the baby up, but she could be liable for the money that has been paid to take care of her.

This is one of the dangers in the surrogacy process. Adoption is only legal if it’s consensual and people don’t get that. Mother can always change her mind.
