idk if this is a hot take but if a parent does their part in providing a loving, supportive environment, children will naturally reach out when they feel ready and we shouldn’t force that for our own benefit. It's important for kids to be able to prioritize their friendships and personal experiences and we send them to camp and college in order to do so in some sense — it’s space for them to grow and become independent. They shouldn't feel pressured to pause these connections just to fulfill an obligation to their parents when we are supposed to be the ones supporting them at this stage not the other way around.

Haha if it makes you feel any better I wrote letters constantly the first 2 weeks of my first year at sleep away and they were all about how miserable I was 😂 I ended up going back for 6 more years plus 2 more as a counselor.
