These systems operate with satellites that orbit the Earth at specific altitudes, calculated based on gravity, Earth's curvature, and the laws of Kepler and Newton. If the Earth were flat: There would be no need to calculate elliptical orbits or launch satellites to precise altitudes to cover specific regions of the globe. Three-dimensional triangulation, required by GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), would be impossible. GNSS determines an exact position in latitude, longitude, and altitude by using the time difference of signals received from multiple satellites.
