That’s unacceptable. And the tempers of most surgeons is unacceptable. Just strengthens the stereotype. I’m a vascular surgeon myself. That’s inappropriate behavior. Glad you like vascular now! Some of us are chill. Some. 😁

I truly don’t think people understand the shit that goes on in the OR…💀 Truly, until you experience these things first hand you can’t even begin to comprehend what goes on and how mentally and physically exhausting your day can be and that’s not even factoring the surgery 🤪

As someone who scrubs vascular more days than I don’t, I could never imagine abandoning a STUDENT in that room even though I work with the most amazing vascular surgeons. Also, we aren’t allowed to not be scrubbed in with students.

I worked with a surgeon and THREW LOADED KNIFE at the circulator and no one said or did anything to him.

The way I woulda said “ARE YOU?” Bc no ma’am i do not care if you’re a surgeon. You ain’t gonna talk to me or anybody like that in front of me 🤣. (Circulator here, if I was your nurse he woulda got an ear full and reported) so sorry you went through that!

I work in lab, when I was a student I was having trouble making peripheral blood smears bc it’s a hard thing to do when you’ve only done it once in school 🥴 I showed my preceptor and he looked at the slides I made, slammed his hands on the table, and yells “oh. My. GOSH.” I was so embarrassed and like I thought some of them were good too 😭 I went and cried in the bathroom later and TORE HIM APART in my after clinical survey

nah bc if my preceptor left me for even a second in a case/specialty i know nothing about, BEST believe i'm letting the charge nurse know and calling that preceptor back into the room on the overhead speaker. safety report would be filed too! I dont play like that!!

genuine question NOT JUDGING, why can’t you stand up for yourself in this situation? In any other profession that would be incredibly innapropriate. I get the stereotype with surgeons but does everyone just accept the abuse? Would you get fired for speaking up?

currently in ST school and i seriously want to know if we are allowed to defend ourselves? my instructors basically say to just agree and apologize but… why would i allow someone to verbally abuse me when im literally LEARNING?

I got yelled at and berated for almost a whole shift because the surgeon dropped the cartilage…. From the cup he INSISTED be kept on the mayo. Some of them are the worst!

1) that’s unhinged, inappropriate of the surgeon 2) a preceptor should KNOW better than to leave their student alone. No way no how. The point of a preceptor is to hold your hand the whole way.
