I have a lucky squirrels foot. It’s preserved and has the fur on it, I like to pet it when I’m anxious. Sounds odd, but please consider my brother from my adoptive family did it for me after a squirrel at the rehab we volunteered for passed away. We cared for a variety of wild animals like possums, raccoons, birds, weasels—and plenty of squirrels. I was afraid of squirrels for so long, but now I hold onto this squirrels foot for luck and courage. Also to remind myself we can’t save everyone, and that will never stop us from trying

Hummingbirds are really special to me because when I was going through a really hard time I was trying to focus on small things that used to bring me childlike joy so I painted a series of them and it got me through.

Flowers! Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved flowers and used to imagine my yard like a secret garden with fairies and tall flowers I could hide away in. It was so vivid in my mind despite my parents’ having a super sad dead lawn. Mg imagination was a magical escape filled with flowers. Still to this day, I love love love flowers. They are all over my home and my yard now.

Bird boxes because when I was a kid my cousins and I would travel around the island in South Carolina my grandparents live on half the year and we would check the bird boxes and count the eggs and identify the birds that made nests in them 🪺

Maxwell House International instant coffee. For me it represents strength, caring for others, and connection to my mom. She drank that coffee every morning at 4:30am before leaving for work as a cancer nurse. I was later her hospice caregiver, and i made her last cup of that coffee.

🍓 Little Debbie’s Strawberry shortcake rolls- when I was young I didn’t get to celebrate birthdays for religious reason. Instead of getting to have the birthday snack everyone else got to eat; I got to eat a little shortcake roll. I used them growing up and still through college as a reward after I passed a big exam or wrote a difficult paper or got an apartment or job. They unfortunately changed the recipe I think in the last year because they don’t taste the same anymore 💔

I have a teddy bear called "Grandpa Bear" that someone gave to me when my grandfather passed. I've had him since '98 and he has a voice box that I've never had to replace the batteries once and it still sounds fine--kinda wild 😯💕

Crows - I grew up around them in the south, and when I hear the caw wherever I am, I'm reminded of the duality of a conservative/queer childhood, the good and the bad parts. Which i think is embodied in such a dark, lovely bird
