I have two different garden beds. One I use the carpet underneath the mulch and the other one I didn’t. I really regret not putting the carpet on the second one because I always have grass popping up in corners.

Weed fabric is bad…period. Eventually weeds will grow through all types of it!

that heavy duty fabric you have is actually hardscape fabric which isn't meant to let water pass through the other works just as well with proper maintenence and prene and is recommended for plants because it allows water to pass through while preventing weeds
