Babe, he’s a psychiatrist… Do you know how many crazy things they’ve dealt with? They are taught to not abandon their patients because it can cause even more of a spiral he was just trying to help.

Often when you see the same patient for awhile, especially in the mental health field which is apart of where I work, its important to keep an established bond of trust as once you break it they'll likely be afraid or insecure to being up those feelings to a new provider. Her psychiatrist likely considered that this was development of an type of attachment style she has and wanted to see where/how it develops so he could find the best way to aide her based on her patterns of behavior. I worked for awhile with kids with autism and intellectual disabilities and had a student with a very open crush on me and had to do a similar balancing game where because of it he would open up to me about very vulnerable things that were important to let his therapist know about that would help get a better basis of his daily life and thought process. Often small things that you dont notice will get blown up by the other party and alot of the time in the mental health space its usually infantilization from sharing such personal details that causes this type of attachment.

Kendra didn’t tell him about her feelings until the last session per her words.

I have lost a lot of faith in the medical industry. That includes mental health professionals with everything I’ve seen in the past few years… At the end of the day, psychiatrists are just people, flawed human beings like the rest of us. Doctors do sometimes fall in love with patients. It’s even been coined the Florence Nightingale Effect, in my opinion I think that should be a conflict of interest. Rather than allowing her to explore these feelings that she’s feeling for him and cause more delusion and attachment he should have made it abundantly clear to her and especially in this darn age. After making it clear that he is her doctor not a possible partner they should’ve given her another psychiatrist. If the roles were reversed, and this was a man pervin out on his doctor.

I dont believe that she ever actually told him she was obsessed with him.
Transferring care is difficult. It isn't as simple as "oh you like me time to go"
Honestly, he probably felt she was incredibly unstable and that transferring care would have been detrimental.

That’s unfortunately just not how it works, he has a job to do and this is the reality of mental health, it’s uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous work. There’s also not a ton of protection for providers in the mental health feild. The reality is she will fall for ANY professional because she’s delusional. Switching psychiatrists will just put her back at square 1 with evaluation, medications, and the change of routine in general. And unfortunately way more patients than you think actively try to make moves on their psychiatrists and it’s their job to keep their patients dignity and not make them embarrassed about themselves, and continue to try and help them.

A psychiatrist has a duty of care to patients that includes not rejecting or abandoning them for their feelings, including confessions of love. He did nothing wrong and this take is harmful.

That’s crazy to compare a plumber to a psychiatrist job. any person that has zero training in psychotherapy weighing in on this is irrelevant.

the excuses people use don’t make any sense. “He’s not supposed to just transfer her IMMEDIATELY.” Who said immediately? “She’s obviously crazy” WE KNOW THAT “he’s supposed to try to help her through it?” WAS HE JUST GONNA KEEP HER AS A PATIENT FOR FOUR MORE YEARS WHILE SHE SUFFERED FROM HER OBSESSION? she’s not well, she needs REAL help
