While I get the “fun” argument, there’s rule zero for that. I think for lgs play, accessibility concerns (which is why they banned the cards that require athletic skills) for those with physical disability makes it the right call for games where anyone can sign up at an lgs.

how does it work with the stack? does someone need to play a counter spell before we bid or does the bidding happen then they lose life and then they counter and get their commander out? or is it another way

If u have an effect that says u can't lose life, you could bid 1 billion and still counter the spell. The countering just depends on winning the bid, not the paying of life
