I always look back and think.. what if I hadn’t kept going in the gym? There was a point where my legs hadn’t improved at all, even after losing a massive amount of weight, and the only information available said that Lipedema was “resistant to diet and exercise” So I pushed harder. I still remember those “five-mile Saturdays,” forcing myself to run and trying to beat my time, even though every step felt weighed down by the fat on the back of my legs. What I didn’t realize then was that exercise wasn’t failing me, I just needed to approach it differently. At Stage 3, my biggest focus had to be on losing the normal fat. At Stage 2, I still had to keep losing fat, but I also began slowly building strength and improving mobility through strength training. Now, at Stage 1, the focus is full-on muscle building, and that’s what’s changing everything. This workout is a Phase 2–3 style routine. If you’re at Phase 3, it’s all-in with kettlebell strength. If you’re at Phase 2, you can modify as you build. Either way, it meets you where you are.
