@specialeducationboss: Can a student exit speech services without a formal assessment? 🗣️📋 Let’s break down what’s required and what parents should know! #SpeechTherapy #IEPRights #SpecialEducation #ParentAdvocacy #EducationMatters #SPEDSupport #KnowYourRights
For articulation, you do not need to formally test to dismiss but you can use a functional assessment to support your reasons for dismissal - the functional assessment would cover the child meeting with success at the conversational level vs. just the single word or sentence level.

Kendra :
You don’t need formalized testing to exit for articulation. Plenty of informal assessments to know if the student is ready to be dismissed.

Why wouldn’t “met goals” be sufficient for dismissal?

Not true. Achievement of the goal is enough for articulation

Hmmm. But if the full team, including parent for an artic only kid all agrees all sounds are perfect, I wouldn’t put them through the testing for exit.

Speechiegirl :
You don’t need to do artic testing if your data is sufficient to show the child no longer needs speech therapy.
