this is interesting when you think about it as erasure of culture. these eves are born with the ability to practice magic. it was granted to them by God. to restrict them and their culture is much worse than you having to learn how to counterspell.

Banning semi auto staves, has been told to give potential victims an additional two-to-four seconds, but how can you dash and disengage on less than an actual turn? Meanwhile the vast majority of spellings happen in spell free zones, and the least happens where there is another wizard to possibly duel

You wouldn’t try and fight a litch without a wizard in your party. Counter spell, shield, dome of invulnerability. You need a good alignment guy with a spell to fight an unlawful evil person with magic.

I feel like the fact that any novice mage can go to their nearest Wal-Merchant and buy a fireball scroll with little background checks is quite ridiculous. And don’t get me started on neophytes stealing their archmage’s spell tome and using it on their pupils.
