Captain Sisko was the best of them. Why DS9 is not talked about more in black American history & media is baffling to me. This was a masculine black man who is a widow & nurturing single father to a smart & sensitive black boy. He is the lead & in command in a competent & efficient way while still maintaining his own individuality. DS9 has strong themes of enslavement, manifest destiny, reconciling with peace with oppressors, & personal interracial relationships. & though these are not firsts I think DS9 is one of the best examples of diversity & expression of a black american experience.

TNG and DS9 also both ask a really uncomfortable question: What happens when you CANT take the high road. When you HAVE to play in the Mud. When there is truly a no-win Moral situation. TMG resolves this with divine intervention (Q), DS9 resolves it with out.

Forever grateful for the friend that made me push through season 1 because DS9 is hands down the BEST series. Sisko is everything a leader should be and the most intelligent, complex, dynamic, and tender Captain. Every casting on this show is stunning, the acting is beyond, the philosophical questions asked are *chefs kiss*. This edit is so intense and fun.
