This scene is meant to be ironic. The whole point of Dead Poets Society is about seizing the day (Carpe Diem) and she says she feels like she wasted her time watching that movie and then vowed to do whatever she wants everyday and to not waste days (carpe Diem)

As someone who was made to drop a creative subject that I was passionate about and replace it with something dull and academic, the character of Neil Perry made me feel SEEN. People don't understand how big of an impact these things have on you. It isn't just "being in a play", but it's the part of your soul and being that is extinguished with that authoritarian decision.
