Stella, no one knew Mamdani was coming on the North side of the Island. These people are the South Side Hillbillies showing up with 4 teeth between them to protest him. We 100% would have been there to support Mamdani if we knew he was coming. From what I can tell he was here, but not to make a public appearance and it was leaked by someone from the GOP. This is an African American and Latino neighborhood and somehow people from the South Side showed up on Bay Street. If Mamdani announced he was coming there would have been a lot more support.

It’s crazy how so much vitriol is directed at liberals or left-leaning policymakers even when the policies are designed to help the very people complaining. People throw themselves in front of wealthy corporations and the ultra-rich as if defending them is the ultimate priority, while policies that actually protect and uplift the average person are painted as an ‘attack.

i've seen a couple videos like this and it's worth noting that a higher percentage of Staten Island is voted for him than people in the Bronx Scott Labaido, the leader of that extremely tiny protest, is a Showboat who gets himself in the spotlight anytime you can with his tiny band of malcontents. We actually managed to elect a Democrat on the island to Congress a few years ago, although he didn't last my point being that a lot of the assumptions people make about the island are rooted in our past and not the progressive wave that exist here now.

I was born on Staten Island in 1965 and moved to New Jersey in 2004. as someone born and raised on Staten Island I can corroborate everything you said. Staten island, especially the South Shore, is bright red republican. Trump Town personified. I was a teenager in the '80s growing up on Staten Island and it was beautiful. Now I only go back for family funerals
