@jpgloria.dpt: Being stiff/rigid does not necessarily make you a more efficient runner. - One common misconception is that the less movement that occurs during running, the more efficient we are. This can be true to an extent. Take a look at the greatest runners from a front view from sprinting to the marathon. You can appreciate that running is a multiplanar movement from both extremely different disciplines. Some “gurus” may comment that if they had less side to side/rotational movement, they would run faster. However, this movement is essential to running well. Running does not just come from the legs. Running involves orchestrated movement from the whole body. So if you find yourself feeling really stiff when you run… Relax a little. This may help you find what works best for you. - I hope you found this post helpful. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section below. And please don't hesitate to ask any questions you have for me too. Keep in mind that this is for educational purposes only. I've been practicing Yang style Tai Chi for ~18 years--and somewhere around year 4 I noticed that it had significantly changed how I walk. Maybe a decade after that I started really getting into fitness, and I thoughtfully and intentionally worked to synthesize a gait that worked with my long-standing practice for things like running and rucking and walking up hills at fast paces.
Fast forward another decade and I found out that what I've been doing is something very similar to the Young Shuffle. Wholeheartedly agree--changing axes of movement through various planes significantly influences the different stresses that your body feels!
