SoCal guy here. I've been going to Switzerland for at least 40 years. My daughter married a Swiss guy, lives in Buochs. It actually used to be more expensive relative to u.s. in 80s and 90s; particularly for dining out and lodging. So now I think it's not so bad. But you are right the tram/gondola rides were and still are expensive. With recent dollar devaluation it might get a bit more expensive.

swizzy is much cheaper to explore with the swiss travel pass per train (every train included!!) bc with that the gondolas are half the price too😊

in switzerland now, my advice is get an airbnb, go grocery shopping for 90% of of ur meals (cook or pack food to go), also look into the swiss half fare card and other travel passes available for transit - u save a lot of money doing this
