@rosiehharte: On April 8th, 1795, the future King George IV married his cousin Princess Caroline of Brunswick. It was to be an ill-fated marriage, with the couple unofficially separating after the birth of their only child nine months later. The mother of the groom, Queen Charlotte (yes, THAT Queen Charlotte), kept clippings of the dresses worn by herself, the bride, and her daughters on a small card. As you can see, the royal women are all dressed in shades of white, silver, and gold, and many of them match the bride. This was commonplace at upperclass weddings, where the dress code was to wear the most expensive outfits you could. For the richest in society this often meant exclusive colours like the ones seen in this painting. The tradition of bridesmaids wearing white to match the bride is still going strong in the royal family today. #History #fashionhistory #queencharlotte #regencyfashion #bridgerton
