I am convinced that if people with ADHD and anxious attachment could read people’s minds, they would get an ego boost. Not only is it true that sometimes your environment won’t remind you of how special you are as someone with ADHD, it’s also true that your environment might actually respond negatively to who you are—even when you’re doing things that are noble and good. Many people respond negatively to the energy they either feel jealous of or want to capture for themselves. This happens often, because people can be secretly frustrated with those who have ADHD. What people fail to realize is that ADHD (and ADD) comes with both a real disability and a real ability. The disability limits your awareness in some areas, while the ability increases your fine-tuned energy and awareness in others. Unfortunately, this contrast leaves many neurotypical people assuming you’re selfish—believing you put too much energy into what stimulates you and not enough into what doesn’t. They don’t recognize the underlying shame you carry or how deeply you crave positive feedback. That’s why it’s so important to remind yourself that, even when you’re speaking or engaging in something you know you’re good at, people’s negative reactions—verbal or nonverbal—are not the truth about you. You must hold firm in who you are and what you’re capable of. Their reactions are often attempts to bring you down. Take that information with a grain of salt, or even the whole bucket sometimes! Watch for moments like this and remind yourself often. This is how you return to reality and protect your sense of self. #adhdtiktok #anxiousattachment #neurospicy #neurodivergent #fyp
