As someone who doesn’t even watch Spanish soccer: Kylian enters the box, the defender tackles but fails to touch the ball and bumps Mbappe’s left foot (his landing foot) causing him to fall down. Because the defender didn’t touch the ball, did touch Mbappe and stopped his play all within the box, it’s a penalty. Mbappe stomping him sadly was a consequence of the defenders failed tackle.
