@teamhootpolevault: Some of you will finish your season and want to get right back to work with training. Then there are some who will be thankful that the season is over and welcome a mental and physical break from the sport. Both are exactly the right answer! I understand both sides. In high school and college, I couldn't get enough of the sport. I'd finish the season and keep training through the summer, and I loved it. I jumped higher, and life was good! But a shift happened when I was doing the pro thing. The international travel, training alone, and eating pole vault 24/7 got to be a lot where I looked forward to a different meal besides pole vaulting. When I took some time off, I came back to the sport refreshed and excited to play pole vault again. If I'm being honest with you, the first few pro years, even though I didn't want to eat pole vault for dinner anymore, I kept forcing it down. It made me resent the sport, I was injured a lot and always in a horrible mood. It works in the same way when your parents force you to eat cauliflower. It only makes you hate it more. (I still hate cauliflower. All I'm trying to say is listen to your body and mind in the same way you listen to it when it needs water. If your gut is telling you to take a break from the sport, take a break! If your gut is telling you to get after it, get after it! There is no right or wrong answer. Do what makes you happy! If you're in ( get after it)mode, my book and 3 month training plans will get you rollin'! Team-Hoot.com #teamhoot #polevault #trackandfield #vault #polevaulting .
